When your best friend tells you she is getting married to the boy we met on the beach when we were in 7th grade… well, you scream, you hug, you cry a little (tears of joy, obvi)… and then you say, let’s start planning all the things!
My mind of course wanders to planning her every outfit for all the events that come with being the BRIDE… but then my mother reminds me to “Focus, we need to get moving on planning the bridal shower.” It was not a huge undertaking since it was an intimate group (which I loved) … but I figured I would share some tips to help anyone who has the title “Bridal shower planner” in their future. The biggest thing to keep in mind… do not let things get too out of hand (because these type of things can get a bit crazy).
Things to keep in mind and a few tips and tricks:
- Ask the bride what she wants. Keep in mind this is not YOUR bridal shower, it is hers. At the end of it all you want her to remember how magical it was and how it had all the things SHE wanted… not YOU!
- Get an idea of how many people will be attending. The sooner you do this the sooner you can start to see what will fit into your budget and what may not. These type of things can be expensive and you do not want things to get too over budget before you have even had your first mimosa.
- You can break tradition. Most bridal showers happen on a Sunday in the middle of the day. This may work for what your Bride wants but also keep your mind open to other ideas. A friday cocktail bridal shower, a saturday brunch or a backyard bridal barbecue. Again, make it special so it matches what the Bride wants and speaks to her.
- Balloons, flowers and candles go a long way! It is amazing what these three things can do to a room. Keep things simple and elegant and everyone will love it, trust me!
- Tie in the Groom at some point. Weather it is in a game or conversation, tie the Groom in. Keep in mind, their are two people getting married. Yes, you are showering the bride but they would not be here if there was not two people getting married.
I could go on and on but I figure those 5 tips are a good base to build off of. My biggest wish for you… is that you are not dealing with a bridezilla!
XOXO. Kel
